Curtiss Wright Surface Technologies (CWST), formerly known as Metal Improvement Company (MIC), is a subsidiary owned 100% by Curtiss Wright Corporation. CWST has been dedicated to shot peening applications since 1945 and is the leader of this technology for introducing new processing techniques, technologies, equipment and the development of different types of balls that have allowed the proliferation of new applications for shot peening. Its extensive knowledge in this technique also has allowed the development of a laser peening process, which enables a clean and localized application (in addition to greater depth and amplitude of treatment). The firm specializes in improving the understanding of the mechanisms and effects of the process and conducts research with companies around the world, given its international character. The subsidiary in Spain was created in 2005 and the activity of the Division of Seville began in late 2007, completing key customers' certifications (Airbus, Airbus Defense and Space, Embraer, Bombardier, etc.) and NADCAP regulations during the first half of 2008. It is currently working with major aerospace companies in the sector and its scope extends to other sectors such as the automotive and chemical industry. In its growth policy, the firm has created a new corporate image, Curtiss Wright Surface Technologies, and has added new technologies to its portfolio, such as thermal projections (plasma, HVOF, HVAF, electric arc, etc.), special coatings (Everlube, Parylene, various solid lubricants, etc.), and a test laboratory (IMR Test lab).
